KNOTS & BEADS

I can't stop looking at this amazing curtain by industrial designer Hella Jongerius for the North Delegates' Lounge at the United Nations buildings in New York. Beautiful porcelain beads by Royal Tichelaar and knotted yarn.

I've blogged about Hella Jongerius a few times now (because I absolutely love her), and she continues to amaze.
I love the hard and soft qualities of this curtain, the varying sizes of knots, the handmade quality of the beads,
and finally the variety of pattern.

The curtain measures 14 meters wide by 7 meters high (aprox. 46 feet x 23 feet) and is comprised of over 20,000 unique beads that are partially glazed and strung on a yarn grid inspired by  fishing nets from Dutch maritime history.

Sigh....I wish I could see this person.
